Interventional Cardiology Research

All interventional cardiology fellows are required to participate in meaningful research during their training. On arrival, the fellows are encouraged to explore the research options at UC San Diego and pursue academic endeavors. Experience in academic research is critical not only when pursuing an academic career, but also to perform at a high-level in a field as dynamic and advanced as interventional cardiology. Academic exposure and involvement are critically important for fellows seeking to be skilled operators, which is the goal of our fellowship training program. The UC San Diego Division of Cardiovascular Medicine affords trainees the opportunity to become involved in single and multicenter clinical trials, as well as providing resources to develop unique ideas and pursue research and clinical publications.

In addition, the Interventional Cardiology training program collaborates with engineering and basic research laboratories on the University campus, from which research studies are frequently published. The Interventional Cardiology faculty have experience conducting clinical research at UC San Diego, including interacting with the Human Subjects Protection (IRB) Committee, allowing trainees exposure to all aspects of research including study development, protocol submission, informed consent, moral and ethical considerations, study performance, interaction with industry sponsors, data analysis, manuscript preparation and submission.
