The Advanced Lipid Disorders Clinic at UC San Diego Health is led by Dr. Michael Wilkinson and comprised of several physicians focused on the diagnosis and management of dyslipidemia as well as the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through risk factor management and use of lipid-modifying therapies.
Our purpose spans from clinical services to research, education and training, both in clinical lipidology and cardiovascular disease prevention. We evaluate and manage both common and rare lipid disorders, including those that impact LDL cholesterol, lipoprotein(a), and triglycerides, among others. UC San Diego Health has the only lipoprotein apheresis unit in San Diego County, led by Dr. Amber Sanchez.
We seek to improve the lives of patients through early detection and treatment of preventable diseases associated with lipid disorders, especially ASCVD, and advance our understanding of lipid disorders and their treatment. We conduct research to develop lifestyle-based treatment options as well as innovative drug therapies for individuals who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
