The Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) Summer Research Program offers high‑school, undergraduate, and medical students a fully funded, eight‑week research experience in cardiovascular science. Participants receive mentorship from UC San Diego clinician‑scientists, attend a core lecture series, and gain clinical shadowing opportunities.
SRP Recipients will have the opportunity to receive mentorship and conduct research under the guidance of world‑renowned cardiovascular clinician scientists…
By the end of the Summer Research Program, students will have adept experience in the following foundations of clinical and population health research:
SRP Students will receive a designated mentor for both their research and clinical shadowing components of the program.
Your SRP Mentors are a part of the UCSD BEACON Team. Through their guidance, they will not only lead you in research projects (see above) but also take you through key experiences related to being a cardiologist here at UCSD.
Shadowing Experiences:
A foundational component of this program is you. Every person awarded participation in this comes from different backgrounds, experiences, and timepoints in their academic journeys. As you learn about clinical research and practice, you will be able to pull in different perspectives from your peers and gain insight to help shape your future and how you impact the community.
The whole program will run for 8 weeks during Summer 2026 (June 1 - August), with the core program running 4 weeks from June 15 - July 15. There is also the opportunity to continue your work through the end of summer depending on flexibility
Undergraduate and medication students: $5,000
High School Students: $2,500
